20-year wait time for some affordable housing units in Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon

Over 32,000 households in Mississauga, Brampton, and Caledon face wait times of up to 20 years for affordable housing, according to a report from the Region of Peel. More than 8% of residents live in poverty, with a significant increase in demand for social services and food assistance. The region is urging the province to raise Ontario Works payments by at least $150 to meet rising living costs and improve access to housing and mental health services. Funding gaps in Peel exceed $868 million annually, exacerbating the crisis.
